Xander Schauffele secured his first major championship victory by winning the PGA Championship in Louisville. After coming into the final round with a two-shot lead, Schauffele outdueled Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland to claim the Wanamaker Trophy. He set a new major scoring record with a 21-under total and became just the third player to win the PGA with a birdie on the final hole.

Schauffele expressed emotions after his birdie putt on the last hole and mentioned the challenges of staying focused throughout the round. DeChambeau, a former PGA Tour winner, finished with a bogey-free round to secure a top-10 finish in his second consecutive major. Schauffele’s victory marked a significant milestone in his career, ending years of frustration in the majors with numerous top-10 finishes.

Starting the final round tied for the lead, Schauffele quickly took control with an early birdie. Despite a hiccup on the back nine, he managed to regain the lead with crucial birdies to stay ahead of the competition. DeChambeau showcased his resilience by staying in contention and eventually forcing a playoff with Schauffele after sinking a birdie on the final hole.

Hovland, who had a strong showing throughout the tournament, fell short in the final holes and settled for a third-place finish. Collin Morikawa, the 2020 PGA champion, struggled with his putting and ended in a tie for fourth place. Schauffele’s wire-to-wire victory showcased his ability to perform under pressure and close out important tournaments.

DeChambeau’s impressive performance and near-miss at claiming the PGA Championship added to the excitement of the tournament. Schauffele’s breakthrough win solidified his status as a top player on the PGA Tour and provided a reminder of his talent and potential. The thrilling conclusion to the tournament highlighted the competitive nature of professional golf and the challenges players face in major championships.

Overall, Schauffele’s victory at the PGA Championship was a defining moment in his career, showcasing his ability to perform at the highest level and overcome past setbacks. The competition between Schauffele, DeChambeau, and Hovland added intrigue to the tournament and kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final putt dropped. As Schauffele celebrated his long-awaited major win, the golf world recognized his talent and resilience on the course.
