Xander Schauffele recently participated in the U.S. Open and tied for 7th place at Pinehurst No. 2. The tournament ended with Bryson DeChambeau winning after saving par on the 72nd hole, edging out Rory McIlroy by one stroke. Schauffele expressed his excitement as a fan watching the intense finish unfold on TV after finishing his round earlier. McIlroy, who last won a major in 2014, left without speaking to reporters and withdrew from the upcoming Travelers Championship to take some time away to process the tough loss.

McIlroy’s defeat at the U.S. Open left many wondering how he would bounce back. Schauffele, reflecting on his own experiences with tough losses, emphasized the importance of leaning on one’s support system during difficult times. He acknowledged the pressure and scrutiny McIlroy faces as a top player in the sport, but expressed confidence in McIlroy’s ability to handle the situation. McIlroy plans to return to competition at the Genesis Scottish Open and the Open Championship, where he will defend his title.

Schauffele discussed the different ways individuals handle defeat, noting that everyone copes in their own way. He emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with a supportive team to regain confidence and continue moving forward. As a player who has experienced both successes and setbacks, Schauffele offered insight into the mental aspect of professional golf and the resilience required to bounce back from disappointments. He is set to compete in the Travelers Championship alongside Matthieu Pavon, teeing off on Thursday afternoon.
