10 Critical Questions for Augusta National to Address

The 2025 Masters week is underway at Augusta National, and there are several burning questions surrounding the tournament. One of the key questions is how Scottie Scheffler’s hand is doing following a Christmas Day injury that forced him to miss some starts. Despite the setback, Scheffler has been playing well, with a T2 finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open indicating that his hand is improving.

Another question on everyone’s mind is whether this will finally be Rory McIlroy’s year to win the Masters. McIlroy has been in good form, winning twice in five starts and not finishing worse than T17 this season. He has seven top-10 finishes at Augusta National and is still in search of his first green jacket to complete the career grand slam.

Bryson DeChambeau is also a player to watch at this year’s Masters. Despite his prodigious power, he has never really played well at Augusta until last year when he finished T6. DeChambeau’s season hasn’t been too exciting, but he has expressed being in a great frame of mind, which could bode well for his performance at the tournament.

Viktor Hovland’s recent win at the Valspar Championship has raised questions about whether it was a trend or a mirage. After a strong 2023 season, Hovland struggled last year and showed inconsistency this season. His win at the Valspar Championship was encouraging, but the question remains whether he can carry that form into the Masters.

Weather conditions are expected to be favorable for the Masters week, with the possibility of rain later in the week. The last four Masters champions finished around the same score of 10-12 under par, indicating that this might be the magic number to watch for this year’s tournament.

Several major-less players, including Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, and Tommy Fleetwood, are looking to shed the label of the best player never to win a major. Aberg, in particular, has been a rising star in the golf world and is a popular pick for this year’s tournament.

Joaquin Niemann is another player to watch at this year’s Masters. Despite his talent and success on the PGA Tour, Niemann has yet to make a significant impact in major championships. With endorsements from players like Phil Mickelson, Niemann could be a dark horse to watch.

Phil Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion, has been playing well and talking confidently about his chances at this year’s tournament. Despite being 54 years old, Mickelson’s experience and course knowledge could give him an edge at Augusta National.

Collin Morikawa, a two-time major winner, is another player to keep an eye on at the Masters. With his solid ball-striking abilities and past success at Augusta, Morikawa is a strong contender for the green jacket this year.

Lastly, the Masters often unveils new menu items, and fans are wondering if a new sandwich will make its debut this year. Overall, the 2025 Masters is shaping up to be an exciting and unpredictable tournament with several compelling storylines to follow.
