The Bridges Cup is an elite mid-amateur team event that features 24 players from the United States and the rest of the world in a Ryder-Cup style match-play competition. The event is back in South Korea for its third iteration in 2024 and is a celebration of competition and camaraderie at the amateur level. Conceived and founded by CJ Corp, in partnership with 8AM Golf, the Bridges Cup is designed to elevate the amateur game by replicating the feel of a high-end professional tournament where no expense is spared to host the competitors.
The 24 players competing in the Bridges Cup are hand-picked by their respective team captains based on criteria such as Handicap Index, history of tournament play, reputation on and off the course, and the quality of affiliated clubs. Team USA is led by Jeff Fujimoto, 8AM Golf’s chief business development officer, with vice captains Kevin Turner and Michael Phelps, while Simon Holt, 8AM Golf’s new luxury travel business operator, heads up the Internationals with vice captain Joshua Adams. The American side will also be bolstered by vice captains Kevin Turner, former COO of Microsoft, and all-time Olympic medal winner Michael Phelps.
The venue for the Bridges Cup changes each year, with the 2024 edition being held at Haesley, a course located southeast of Seoul in South Korea. The event features a three-day format with six four-ball and six foursomes matches on Day 1, six four-ball matches on Day 2, and 12 singles matches on Day 3. The Americans need 15 points to retain the Cup, while the Internationals need 15.5 points to claim victory. The Americans have previously won the first two editions of the Bridges Cup by scores of 64-41 in 2022 and 19-11 in 2023.
The 2024 Bridges Cup will take place from Monday, Oct. 14 to Wednesday, Oct. 16, and live scoring updates and information can be found on the official website. The event aims to showcase the talents of mid-amateur golfers from around the world and provide a platform for them to compete at a high level in a professional tournament-like setting. With a focus on competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship, the Bridges Cup continues to elevate the amateur game and promote the spirit of golf among players and fans alike.
