9 players aiming to join Lydia Ko in the LPGA Hall of Fame

Lydia Ko’s recent victory puts her on track to become the youngest successful qualifier for the LPGA Hall of Fame, only one point shy of eligibility. The LPGA uses a points-based system to determine qualifying, with one point earned for winning a regular tournament or certain awards, and two points for a major title. With only 23 out of 34 members qualifying through points, the Hall of Fame is incredibly difficult to enter, with even some active stars falling just short of the requirements.

Several active players with at least 10 LPGA Hall of Fame points have contended for entry. Lydia Ko, with 26 points, gained the bulk of her points during her teen years and is now two points away from successful qualification. Jin Young Ko, Stacy Lewis, and Ariya Jutanugarn have also accumulated the necessary points, with Jin Young Ko having shown great potential and consistency in recent years. However, players like Brooke Henderson, Sei Young Kim, and Lexi Thompson have slowed down in earning points, despite past successes.

Brooke Henderson, the all-time winningest Canadian player in professional golf history, has not earned more than three points in a season but has delivered in her two campaigns with major victories. Sei Young Kim, after her most successful year in 2020, has struggled to add to her points total. Lexi Thompson, once on a Hall of Fame trajectory, has not earned any more points since 2019. Newer contenders like Minjee Lee and Nelly Korda have shown potential for Hall of Fame qualification, but need to maintain their success in the coming years.

Minjee Lee and Anna Nordqvist have gained significant points in recent years, with Lee’s victories over the past two seasons bringing her close to halfway to Hall of Fame eligibility. Anna Nordqvist, with three major titles under her belt, has impressive accomplishments but has not earned more than three points in a single season. Nelly Korda, having earned six points in 2021 with four titles, the Olympics, and her first major win, has the potential for Hall of Fame qualification if she continues to perform well in the future.

Overall, the LPGA Hall of Fame remains one of the most challenging Hall of Fames in all of sports to enter, with only a select few players meeting the stringent requirements for eligibility. Active players with at least 10 points have shown remarkable skill and success in their careers, but maintaining that level of performance is crucial for Hall of Fame qualification. As Lydia Ko nears the Hall of Fame threshold, it will be interesting to see which other active players can join her in this prestigious group of LPGA legends in the future.
