The Louisville Metro Police Department held a press conference to discuss the investigation into Scottie Scheffler’s arrest on May 17. Despite media speculation, the charges against Scheffler are not being dropped, and the case will proceed forward through the judicial process. Detective Bryan Gillis, who made the arrest, did not have his body-worn camera operational, leading to disciplinary action for a procedural violation. Two videos of the incident were released, showing Scheffler’s interaction with the police officer.

One video shows Scheffler attempting to pull into the club, with Gillis obstructing his progress. The second video shows Scheffler passing near a police cruiser in handcuffs. The specifics of the corrective action taken against Detective Gillis were not disclosed during the press conference. At the request of the Louisville attorney’s office, no additional videos will be released until the legal process concludes. Scottie Scheffler’s attorney, Steven Romines, maintains that Scheffler did nothing wrong and is not interested in a settlement. Scheffler is charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals.

The arraignment for Scottie Scheffler is scheduled for June 3 in Louisville. The press conference, featuring Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg and police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, did not include a question-and-answer session with the media. Golf Channel provided coverage of the press conference for those who were unable to watch it live. The release of the videos from the incident sheds some light on the events that led to Scheffler’s arrest. The ongoing investigation will continue to follow the judicial process to determine the outcome of the case. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold, but both the police department and Scheffler’s legal team are prepared for the next steps in the process.
