Robert MacIntyre had a special week at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, where he secured his first victory on the PGA Tour. The Scottish golfer decided to bring his dad, Dougie, on as his caddie at the last minute, and the father-son duo proved to be a winning combination. MacIntyre finished the tournament one stroke ahead of France’s Victor Perez, holding a four-shot lead after 54 holes, making him the fifth player to do so on the PGA Tour this season.

After opening the tournament with a solid 64, MacIntyre continued with back-to-back 66s, solidifying his position at the top of the leaderboard. Despite Canadian Mackenzie Hughes briefly grabbing a share of the lead on Sunday, MacIntyre regained his momentum on the back nine and finished with a final-round 68 to close the tournament at 16 under. This victory made MacIntyre the fifth player from Scotland to win on the PGA Tour since 1940, joining other notable Scottish golfers such as Sandy Lyle, Paul Lawrie, Martin Laird, and Russell Knox.

MacIntyre’s win at the RBC Canadian Open was particularly special as he had his father on his bag, becoming the first winner of a PGA Tour event with his father as his caddie since Heath Slocum in 2005. Additionally, MacIntyre became the 16th left-handed golfer to win a PGA Tour event. Despite a couple of bogeys on the back nine, MacIntyre held strong and finished with a birdie on the 15th hole, securing his victory over Perez, who finished as the runner-up with a final-round 64.

With consistent performances in recent tournaments, including a T-8 at the PGA Championship, MacIntyre showed that he was trending towards a win. Having previously won twice on the DP World Tour and representing Team Europe in the Ryder Cup, MacIntyre has proven himself as a competitive golfer at the highest level. His strong performance at the RBC Canadian Open further solidified his status as a rising star in professional golf.

In addition to his victory, MacIntyre earned a first-place check of $1.638 million and 500 FedEx Cup points at Hamilton Golf & Country Club. The 2024 RBC Canadian Open saw MacIntyre join a select group of 54-hole, four-shot leaders who went on to win during the season, including players like Jake Knapp, Akshay Bhatia, Chris Gotterup, and Davis Riley. Overall, MacIntyre’s victory at the RBC Canadian Open was a memorable moment in his career, showcasing his talent and potential as a top athlete in the world of professional golf.
