Yuka Saso made history on Sunday by winning her second US Women’s Open title, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat. Starting the final day three shots behind the leaders, Saso put on a stunning performance with four birdies in five holes on the back nine to secure victory by three strokes. This victory marked her second LPGA Tour title, both of which came at the US Women’s Open. In 2021, Saso became the first Filipino player to win a major, and this year, she represented Japan and dedicated her win to her father.

Despite facing an early setback with a double bogey, Saso displayed resilience and composure to finish the tournament with an impressive two-under-par 68, emerging victorious at four under. Her compatriot Hinako Shibuno finished in second place, highlighting Japan’s dominance in the event. Saso’s win was a testament to her talent and determination, solidifying her status as one of the rising stars in women’s golf. The 22-year-old’s winning gear included Callaway clubs and a Odyssey putter with which she excelled on the challenging Lancaster Country Club course.

The US Women’s Open presented a tough challenge for players throughout the week, with narrow fairways, long rough, and fast greens contributing to high scores. The cut for the tournament was set at +8, leading to the elimination of several notable players, including world no.1 Nelly Korda and world No.6 Rose Zhang. The tough scoring conditions tested the skills and resilience of the competitors, resulting in a highly competitive and unpredictable event. Saso’s ability to navigate the challenges and emerge victorious showcased her talent and mental strength under pressure.

The event also saw American Ally Ewing surge through the field with a closing 66, sharing third place with Andrea Lee. English player Charley Hull fought back with a closing 67 to tie for 19th place, while Jodi Ewart Shadoff finished tied for 29th. The competitive nature of the tournament was evident as players from various nations showcased their skills and determination on the grand stage of the US Women’s Open. Saso’s remarkable performance and historic win added to the excitement and intrigue of the event, further cementing her reputation as a formidable contender in women’s golf.

The US Women’s Open provided a platform for emerging talents and established stars to test their skills and compete at the highest level. The intense competition, challenging course conditions, and unpredictable outcomes made for a thrilling and captivating event for fans and players alike. Saso’s triumph and record-breaking achievement served as a highlight of the tournament, underscoring the depth of talent and competitive spirit in women’s golf. As the youngest player to win two US Women’s Open titles, Saso’s legacy in the sport continues to grow, inspiring future generations of players to aim for excellence and success on the international stage.
