The party train parked at Pinehurst for the U.S. Open is a unique and luxurious experience for guests and USGA partners alike. Robert Menzies, the owner of the train and railroad on the property, has been working on this project for years, transforming old train cars into open-air lounges with drinks flowing. While he doesn’t have a liquor license yet, he hopes to have one in the future. Dewar’s and Sentry Insurance are just a few of the USGA partners using the party train during the week. Guests have been enjoying a steady flow of beverages like Bud Light, red wine, Michelob Ultra, and Moscow mules served out of silver taps with digital readers. Guests pay for what they pour, creating a unique and enjoyable experience for all attending the U.S. Open.

Menzies plans to open the Locomotive Bar to the public by the next time Pinehurst hosts the Open in 2029. In the meantime, the railway is hosting daily commuter trains from Raleigh, about 70 miles northeast of Pinehurst. Known as the “Open Express,” the train run by Amtrak costs $25 for a roundtrip ticket and stops near Gate 10, the clubhouse, and the range. The Open Express sold out quickly, as it provides a hassle-free and convenient way for guests to commute to and from the tournament without having to deal with parking lots, shuttle buses, and long walks to the entrance. Menzies promises the USGA that no trains will run during the middle of the day during the tournament in exchange for tickets.

The party train at Pinehurst offers a luxurious and enjoyable experience for guests, with drinks flowing and a lively atmosphere. The train is not located on tournament grounds but is near the driving range, providing guests with a prime view of players practicing for the U.S. Open. The party train has been a hit with hospitality guests, who have been enjoying beverages like Bud Light, red wine, Michelob Ultra, and Moscow mules served from silver taps with digital readers. Menzies hopes to obtain a liquor license in the future to expand the offerings on the train.

The Open Express commuter train from Raleigh to Pinehurst offers a convenient and stress-free way for guests to travel to and from the U.S. Open. The train stops near the entrance and key facilities like the clubhouse and the driving range, eliminating the need for guests to navigate parking lots and shuttle buses. The Open Express has been a popular choice for attendees, providing a comfortable and relaxing journey to and from the tournament. Menzies ensures that the trains do not run during peak tournament hours in exchange for tickets to the event. The Open Express has been a success, offering a seamless commuting experience for guests.

Overall, the party train and Open Express at Pinehurst have added a new level of luxury and convenience to the U.S. Open experience. Guests have enjoyed the unique ambiance and offerings on the party train, while the Open Express has provided a stress-free and comfortable way to commute to and from the tournament. Robert Menzies’ vision for the Locomotive Bar is poised to elevate hospitality at Pinehurst for future events, promising a memorable and enjoyable experience for all guests. The combination of the party train and Open Express has enhanced the overall experience of attending the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, setting a new standard for tournament hospitality and transportation.
