Reminder grips are a helpful tool for golfers looking to improve their game, particularly high-handicap players who struggle with consistent hand placement on the club. These grips feature a narrow rib on the underside that fits into the crease of the fingers, reminding players to grip the club properly. While reminder grips have been used by tour players for years, they are still underutilized by the general golfing population. Industry leaders like Golf Pride estimate that only about 15 percent of all grips are ribbed, with their ALIGN grip being the most popular choice.

Greg Cavill, an engineer at Golf Pride, emphasizes the benefits of repeatable hand placement that reminder grips provide. He notes that while diehard golfers may be aware of reminder grips, there is still a lack of knowledge about their benefits among the wider audience. Woody Lashen, a Golf Digest 100 Best Clubfitter, also believes that more players, especially high-handicappers, should consider using reminder grips to improve their game. By maintaining consistent hand placement on the club, golfers can experience increased confidence and potentially see improvements in their swing.

One of the key advantages of using reminder grips is that they eliminate a variable for golfers who struggle to find a comfortable hand position. By using a reminder grip, players can ensure that their hands are positioned on the club the same way every time, leading to more consistent swings. The cost of trying out a reminder grip is relatively low, with the barrier to entry being as simple as re-gripping one club. Golfers can start by re-gripping their driver with a reminder grip to see if they like the feel before committing to re-gripping all of their clubs.

It’s important to note that the placement of the reminder on the grip is crucial for optimal performance. Depending on whether a golfer has a strong or weak grip, they may need to adjust the position of the reminder to align with their hand placement. The goal is not to force a change in the way the club is gripped but to promote consistent hand placement, which can lead to increased confidence and a more consistent swing. Ultimately, reminder grips serve as a helpful tool for golfers of all skill levels looking to improve their game.
