Unveiling Viktor Hovland’s Golf Bag: 7 Equipment Secrets

In a recent article by Jonathan Wall on GOLF.com, the focus is on Viktor Hovland’s gear, particularly his Ping putter cover adorned with a menacing Viking. Hovland’s bag has seen little change over the years, with the most significant adjustment being the custom putter cover that debuted last year. This cover reflects Hovland’s Norwegian roots, love for death metal music, and ties to Oklahoma State University.

The article delves into Hovland’s equipment choices, including his decision to switch to True Temper’s Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shaft in his wedges. This change marked a departure from his previous all-KBS shaft setup and has helped improve his feel around the green. The softer flex of the S400 shaft offers more control and added weight for touch shots.

Hovland’s choice of Ping i210 irons showcases a blend of better player and game improvement features, making them suitable for a wide range of players. The irons have been a staple in Hovland’s bag since he turned pro in 2019, emphasizing the importance of trying different offerings before settling on a specific model.

Additionally, the article sheds light on Hovland’s continued use of the Glide 2.0 lob wedge with s159 DNA. Despite transitioning to newer wedges in his bag, Hovland has stuck with the Glide 2.0 lob wedge due to its sole geometry and personal preferences. The wedge game improvement has been evident in Hovland’s performance on the Tour.

Hovland’s G425 driver has undergone minor adjustments to improve launch and spin rates, resulting in consistent performance on the course. The modifications, which included changes to the shaft tipping, head loft, and hot melt placement, have enhanced Hovland’s driving accuracy and distance.

In terms of grips, Hovland has remained loyal to Golf Pride’s New Decade MultiCompound grips since his college days. The grips offer a blend of rubber and cord for stability and control, providing Hovland with a reliable feel when testing different club heads. Similarly, Hovland’s 15-inch Winn grip on his putter shows signs of wear, indicating his preference for stability during his putting stroke.

Overall, Hovland’s gear choices reflect a blend of personal preferences, performance enhancements, and consistency in his setup. The article highlights the importance of equipment adjustments in a player’s bag and how small tweaks can make a significant impact on performance. Hovland’s dedication to maintaining a consistent setup underscores the significance of finding the right gear for optimal performance on the course.
