The summer months in Palm Desert, California are notoriously hot, with temperatures reaching 110 to 120 degrees. This extreme heat can make traditional outdoor activities like golf less appealing, as the risk of sunstroke and skin cancer increases without proper precautions. However, for dedicated golfers who don’t want to give up their favorite sport during the summer, there are ways to still enjoy the game while staying safe in the desert heat.

One option for golfing in the summer is to play early in the morning when temperatures are cooler. Many snowbird golfers leave the area during the summer, leaving tee times available through about 10 a.m. This allows golfers to get in a full round of golf before the heat becomes unbearable. Additionally, exploring new golf courses in the area can provide a fresh challenge and a chance to experience different course designs.

For those who prefer to practice their golf game in a less intense setting, spending time at the driving range can be a great alternative. Working on specific areas of your game can help improve your skills and prevent you from spending too much time in the sun. Additionally, taking lessons from a teaching pro during the summer months can provide valuable feedback and guidance for improving your game.

If the heat in Palm Desert becomes too much to bear, there are plenty of high-caliber golf courses within a 90-minute drive of the area that offer cooler temperatures. Exploring these options can provide a welcome change of scenery and a more comfortable golfing experience. With cheaper green fees and less crowded tee times during the summer, golfers may find that summer golfing can still be a great way to enjoy the sport.

Ultimately, golfers in Palm Desert don’t have to give up their favorite sport during the summer months. By being smart about when and where to play, as well as taking advantage of opportunities to improve your game, golfing in the desert heat can still be a rewarding experience. Whether you choose to play early in the morning, explore new courses, practice at the driving range, or take lessons from a teaching pro, there are plenty of ways to enjoy golf in Palm Desert during the summer.
