In a surprising turn of events, Keegan Bradley was named the U.S. Ryder Cup captain, sparking excitement and interest throughout the golf world. This announcement was discussed at the PGA Tour-DP World Tour Genesis Scottish Open and also made waves at the LIV Golf Andalucia event in Spain. Two prominent LIV Golf players, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau, both former U.S. Ryder Cup members, shared their reactions to Bradley’s appointment.

Mickelson expressed his initial surprise at Bradley’s selection but quickly turned his excitement, describing it as a great pick. He highlighted Bradley’s passion for the Ryder Cup, emphasizing his love for the event and his leadership potential. Mickelson also commended Bradley for his resilience after being snubbed as a captain’s pick last year, showing support for his new role as the U.S. Ryder Cup captain. DeChambeau also shared his enthusiasm for Bradley’s appointment, particularly noting the captain’s ability to relate to younger players due to his age.

The positive opinions towards Bradley’s captaincy from Mickelson and DeChambeau may stem from their past experiences with the Ryder Cup and Bradley’s openness to LIV Golf players being part of the team in 2025. Bradley made it clear that he intended to have the best players on the team, regardless of their affiliations. This stance was well-received by DeChambeau, who expressed his happiness for Bradley as the captain. When asked about Mickelson’s potential involvement as a vice-captain, Bradley praised their past Ryder Cup memories but acknowledged Mickelson’s future as a captain rather than an assistant.

Despite the strained relationship between Mickelson and the PGA of America amid the LIV-PGA Tour feud, Bradley’s inclusive approach towards LIV players’ participation in the Ryder Cup leaves room for potential surprises in the upcoming tournament. While the idea of seeing DeChambeau and Koepka on the team with Mickelson and Tiger Woods as vice-captains seems unlikely, Bradley’s open-mindedness provides a glimpse of what could unfold at Bethpage Black next fall. Overall, the golf world is abuzz with anticipation for the 2025 Ryder Cup under Bradley’s leadership.
