Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland is known for its iconic 123-yard 8th hole, the Postage Stamp, but it also boasts a collection of challenging par-4 holes that add to its reputation as a top-notch golf course. The course was designed by architect Willie Fernie in 1887 and has a classic out-and-back routing that offers a unique and engaging golfing experience.

During the 2016 Open Championship, Royal Troon hosted one of the most memorable battles in golf history between Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson. Stenson ultimately prevailed with a dramatic birdie on the par-4 15th hole, showcasing the course’s ability to create thrilling moments. The par-4 holes at Royal Troon are a key part of the course’s character and provide a tough but fair challenge to players of all skill levels.

The course features par-4 holes of varying lengths and difficulties, starting with the opening three holes that run parallel to the Firth of Clyde. These holes are relatively short but are well-bunkered, adding to the challenge for players. The 7th hole at Royal Troon is a standout par-4 that features a dogleg and winds through impressive dunes, providing a unique and scenic golfing experience.

Moving into the back nine, the 9th and 10th holes at Royal Troon are challenging par-4s with elevated greens that require accurate approach shots. The 11th hole, known as the Railway, is one of the toughest par-4s on the course and presents a strategic challenge with a narrow fairway and proximity to a rail line. The 12th hole offers a respite before the course’s demanding final stretch of holes.

The closing stretch at Royal Troon features a mix of par-4 holes that test players’ skills and decision-making abilities. The 13th hole is a long and challenging par-4 with rumpled ground and unpredictable bounces, while the 15th hole is a natural links hole with staggered bunkers and a hidden green. The Home hole, the final two-shotter on the course, presents golfers with strategic challenges, including bunkers and out-of-bounds areas near the green.

Overall, Royal Troon Golf Club offers a unique and memorable golfing experience with its collection of challenging par-4 holes. The course’s layout and design provide a tough but fair test for golfers of all levels, making it a must-play destination for those looking to experience traditional links golf at its finest. The history and legacy of Royal Troon, combined with its stunning setting along the coast of Scotland, make it a top choice for golf enthusiasts around the world.
