Recapping the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open

Robert MacIntyre emerged victorious at the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open, securing his second PGA Tour win of the season. His triumph also solidified his status as only the second Scottish player in the modern era to achieve multiple PGA Tour wins in a single season, a feat last accomplished by Sandy Lyle in 1988. MacIntyre expressed his desire to win his national open more than any other tournament, and his passion translated into stellar play, culminating in an eagle, par, and birdie on his final three holes. His impressive performance led to a final score of 18-under par and a prize money earnings of $1.575 million. Unlike the previous year where his fairway wood shot stood out, MacIntyre’s putter played a crucial role in securing his victory this time, with several impressive putts contributing to his success.

The title slipped away from Adam Scott, who finished in second place at 17-under par. Ludvig Aberg, the fourth-ranked player in the world, started the day with a lead but faltered, ultimately ending in a tie for fourth place at 14-under par. Joining Aberg in the tie were notable names like Rory McIlroy, Sungjae Im, Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, and Aaron Rai. While the Genesis Scottish Open is a significant event on its own, many view it as a crucial preparation for The Open taking place the following week. Defending champion Butch Harman will aim to secure back-to-back victories and claim the prestigious title of champion golfer of the year. The Open boasts an impressive field, headlined by major winners Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau, making it one of the most anticipated tournaments of the year.

The victory at the Genesis Scottish Open showcased Robert MacIntyre’s prowess on the course and highlighted the equipment that aided his success. MacIntyre’s bag included a Titleist TSR2 driver, a Titleist GT3 3 wood, a TaylorMade Stealth 2 Rescue hybrid, Titleist 620 CB irons, and Titleist Vokey Design wedges. His choice of putter was the TaylorMade Spider Tour, paired with a Titleist Pro V1 ball. MacIntyre’s equipment selection clearly played a crucial role in his performance, ensuring he had the tools needed to emerge victorious in a competitive field.
