Professional golfer has tearful response to invitation to carry flag during Olympic Opening Ceremony

The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics will kick off with a unique Opening Ceremony, featuring a parade of nations down the Seine River. Professional golfers will be among the athletes participating in the Olympic customs, including carrying their home country’s flag. Shane Lowry, the male representative from Ireland, expressed his excitement and pride in being chosen as the flag bearer. Lowry’s golf career includes winning the 2019 Open Championship and representing Ireland in various competitions.

Other countries, such as Morocco and Paraguay, have also chosen golfers as their flag bearers for the Opening Ceremony. However, no golfers will represent the United States during the ceremony, with athletes like LeBron James and Coco Gauff leading Team USA. The Paris Opening Ceremony will take place along a four-mile water route, showcasing iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral. Athletes will sail past these landmarks on boats before disembarking at the Trocadéro.

Each boat will be on the water for approximately 42 minutes before athletes are transferred to the Trocadéro for the final part of the opening ceremony. This includes the lighting of the Olympic flame, marking the official beginning of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. More than 300,000 people are expected to watch the Opening Ceremony live, with additional viewers tuning in from around the world. Giant screens will be set up across the city to accommodate the large audience.

The unique setting of the Paris Opening Ceremony reflects the grandeur and significance of the Olympic Games. The presence of professional golfers among the athletes adds a new dimension to the event, bridging the gap between traditional Olympic sports and newer additions like golf. The participation of golfers like Shane Lowry highlights the importance of national pride and competition in the world of sports. With the excitement building for the Paris 2024 Olympics, all eyes will be on the athletes as they come together to celebrate the spirit of the Games.
