Wyndham Clark describes ‘surreal’ experience aboard U.S. boat during Olympic Opening Ceremony

Wyndham Clark, the No. 5-ranked player in the world and 2023 U.S. Open champion, made his Olympic debut in the men’s competition at Le Golf National. However, he also had the opportunity to experience the Paris 2024 Games in a unique way by participating in the Opening Ceremony. Clark and his U.S. teammate Collin Morikawa rode the Team USA boat down the Seine along with about 350 U.S. Olympians. Clark expressed his excitement about being able to participate in the Opening Ceremony, calling it a dream come true and one of the coolest parts about the Olympics.

During the Opening Ceremony, Clark and Morikawa interacted with various athletes from different sports, including NBA star Steph Curry, WNBA star Sabirina Ionescu, and NBA’s Derrick White. Clark and White, who grew up together in Colorado, reminisced about their time playing basketball for rival schools in 2012. Clark also had the opportunity to connect with members of the USA track and swim teams, taking pictures and catching up with them. While he didn’t collect any autographs, he did take plenty of selfies and exchanged pins with his fellow athletes.

Several golfers, including Clark and Morikawa, participated in the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony. Alongside them were Albane Valenzuela, representing Switzerland in the women’s golf competition, and flag bearers from countries like Morocco, Paraguay, and Ireland. France had all four of its golfers present at the Opening Ceremony, with players from the LPGA also in attendance. The boat ride parade of nations was a first for an Opening Ceremony, with over 200,000 fans lining the Seine despite the rainy weather.

For Clark, the boat ride during the opening ceremony was a memorable experience, allowing him to take in the sights of the historic city of Paris and witness the fans waving their country flags from the stands. He described the moment as surreal, being surrounded by iconic monuments and the energy of the crowd. Clark highlighted the significance of coming together with athletes from around the world to represent their countries and showcase the spirit of the Olympics.

Overall, Clark’s participation in the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony added to the excitement of his Olympic debut. As he prepared for the men’s competition at Le Golf National, the experience of cruising down the Seine with fellow Team USA Olympians became a cherished memory. The camaraderie and unity displayed during the ceremony reinforced the importance of representing one’s country with pride and honor. As Clark embarked on this new chapter in his golf career at the Olympics, the Opening Ceremony served as a fitting beginning to what promises to be a memorable journey for him and his fellow athletes.
