Matt Kuchar aims to continue streak at 3M Open, trails by 1 stroke

Matt Kuchar’s impressive performance at the 3M Open caught everyone’s attention, as he finished his third round with a birdie-eagle on the 18th hole. This propelled him to a total of 15 under par, just one stroke behind the leader Jhonattan Vegas. Kuchar, along with Vegas and Maverick McNealy, will be in the final grouping on Sunday, with a lot at stake for the PGA Tour veterans. Both Kuchar and Vegas are not currently qualified for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and Kuchar is the only player to have made all 17 editions of the playoffs. Kuchar currently sits at 155th in the FedEx Cup standings, but a win at the 3M Open could significantly improve his position and secure his spot in the playoffs.

The 3M Open is the penultimate event in the PGA Tour regular season, with only the Wyndham Championship remaining before the playoffs. The top 70 players after the Wyndham advance to the playoffs and retain their PGA Tour cards for the next season. Kuchar expressed his determination to give himself as many chances as possible to crack the top 70 and make the playoffs. He emphasized the importance of keeping his job and his streak of never losing his job on the tour. With seven cuts made out of 18 events this season, Kuchar is looking to capitalize on his current position and secure his spot in the playoffs.

In addition to Kuchar’s performance, Maverick McNealy, a former No. 1-ranked amateur, also impressed with a round of 63, finishing at 14 under, just two strokes behind the leader. Other players like Patrick Fishburn and Sahith Theegala are tied at 12 under, four strokes off the lead. Fishburn, who made significant changes to his putting technique, shot 63 on Saturday and credited his improved performance to his adjustments. He highlighted the importance of making putts and how it can change the game for a player.

The competition at the 3M Open is heating up as players like Kuchar, Vegas, McNealy, Fishburn, and Theegala are all in contention for the title. With only one round left to play, the final day promises to be filled with excitement and suspense as these players battle it out for the top spot. Each player is focused on their game and their strategy going into the final round, with the ultimate goal of winning the tournament and securing their spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The stakes are high, and the competition is fierce as these PGA Tour veterans strive for success on the tour.
