Golf is back in the Olympic Games after over a century, and while pro golfers are not playing for the same million-dollar purses as they do on the PGA Tour, there is still money at stake in Paris. However, the amount a player will earn for making the podium at Le Golf National depends on the country they represent. Some countries offer significant financial rewards for Olympic medal winners, with set amounts for gold, silver, and bronze medals.

While winning a medal at the Paris Olympics is not primarily about the money for most golfers, substantial sums are up for grabs for certain athletes. For example, Xander Schauffele could earn $38,000 for winning his second-straight gold medal, the same amount superstar gymnast Simone Biles earned for each of her gold medals. Other countries like Spain offer even higher payouts, with gold medal winners taking home $102,000. The United States has among the smallest medal payouts, with gold medalists earning $38,000.

Australian golfers, including former World No. 1 Jason Day, are playing for relatively paltry sums, with gold medalists receiving $13,000. Singapore’s Shannon Tan has the potential to win the most money in Paris, with gold medal winners in Singapore receiving a whopping $745,000. Below is a list of Olympic medal payouts for countries that offer them, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, and more.

As managing producer for GOLF.com, Kevin Cunningham oversees the publication of stories and newsletters, reaching over 1.4 million subscribers each month. Cunningham’s expertise in the golf industry allows him to navigate the complex landscape of Olympic golf payouts and provide insights on the financial rewards available to athletes. By highlighting the disparities in payouts among different countries, Cunningham sheds light on the financial incentives for golfers at the Olympics.

In conclusion, while golfers competing at the Paris Olympics may not be playing for the same million-dollar purses they are accustomed to on the PGA Tour, there are still significant financial rewards available for medal winners. The amount a player will earn for making the podium depends on the country they represent, with some nations offering substantial payouts for Olympic success. As golf continues to establish itself as a global sport in the Olympic Games, athletes have the opportunity to not only compete for glory but also financial incentives that vary depending on their country of representation.
