Nelly Korda found herself at a crossroads during the Olympic golf tournament at Le Golf National. Despite starting strong with multiple birdies, her round took a turn for the worse after a club selection mishap on the 16th hole. Holding both a wedge and a 9-iron, she chose the latter, but played it hesitant, resulting in a shot that fell short and found the water. This decision led to a series of unfortunate events that culminated in a quadruple-bogey seven on the hole and a subsequent three-putt on the 17th, resulting in a total loss of five shots. This collapse was reminiscent of Korda’s past struggles on big stages, such as carding a septuple-bogey 10 during the U.S. Open and shooting a career-worst 81 at the Women’s PGA.

Despite the setbacks, Korda remained optimistic about her performance, noting that she finished the round under par with a two-under 70. She reflected on the importance of staying positive and focused on improving her game for the remaining rounds of the tournament. With six shots behind the lead and tied for 12th place, Korda acknowledged the challenge ahead but expressed her determination to rally back. Drawing inspiration from fellow world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler’s comeback victory with a nine-under 62, she emphasized the unpredictability of golf and the potential for anything to happen on the course.

Looking ahead, Korda remained hopeful about her chances of making up the deficit and contending for a medal in the Olympic tournament. She highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong performance across all aspects of her game, particularly off the tee and with her approach shots, to give herself the best chance of success. Recognizing the competitive field and the need for consistency in her play, Korda emphasized the importance of staying present and making the most of the opportunities that come her way in the remaining 36 holes of the tournament.

As Korda prepares for the upcoming rounds, she faces the challenge of overcoming past setbacks and maintaining a positive mindset to focus on her performance. With the support of her team and the determination to improve her game, Korda remains committed to giving her best effort and striving for a strong finish in the Olympic golf tournament. Despite the obstacles she has faced, Korda’s resilience and competitive spirit continue to drive her towards her goal of contending for an Olympic medal and showcasing her talent on the international stage.
