The 2024 U.S. Amateur Championship kicked off at Hazeltine National Golf Club and Chaska Town Course in Minneapolis, boasting a field of 312 talented players vying for the prestigious title. The tournament features 36 holes of stroke play, with the top 64 players advancing to match play at Hazeltine. With a rich history dating back to its inception in 1895, the U.S. Amateur is the premier men’s amateur golf championship in the world.

The field is stacked with top talent, including 19 of the top 20 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, such as Gordon Sargent, Jackson Koivun, and Luke Clanton. Clanton, a standout player from Florida State, made headlines by becoming the first amateur to record consecutive top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour since 1958. His stellar play has made him a player to watch at the U.S. Amateur.

David Ford, a left-handed golfer from the United States, has impressed with his performances at The RSM Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA Tour. He also represented the U.S. at the 2023 World Amateur Team Championship and played a key role in the victorious U.S. Walker Cup team. Another rising star to keep an eye on is Ian Gilligan, who recently won the 2024 Western Amateur and climbed to No. 9 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Trevor Gutschewski, the winner of the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur, is a young talent to watch at the U.S. Amateur. Gutschewski from Nebraska, made history by becoming the first player from his state to win the U.S. Junior Amateur title. Ben James, a standout player from the University of Virginia, is another top contender after finishing runner-up at the NCAA Championships and becoming a two-time All-American.

Jackson Koivun, a quarterfinalist at last year’s U.S. Amateur, has captured major college golf awards in his freshman season at Auburn, leading the Tigers to their first national championship. Moreover, Gordon Sargent, the top-ranked amateur in the world, has consistently showcased his talent and is aiming for a U.S. Amateur victory to add to his impressive resume. Another player to watch is Calum Scott, who recently excelled as the low amateur at the Open Championship.

Preston Summerhays, the winner of the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur, has competed in multiple U.S. Amateurs and currently leads the PGA Tour University rankings for the Class of 2025. Vanderbilt’s Jackson Van Paris, who became the youngest player to win a first-round match at the U.S. Amateur since 1916, is also a rising star to watch. With a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talents, the 2024 U.S. Amateur promises to deliver thrilling action and showcase the best of amateur golf talent on a grand stage like Hazeltine National Golf Club.
