The 124th U.S. Amateur is set to conclude with an intriguing final matchup between Iowa sophomore Noah Kent and World Amateur No. 10 Jose Luis Ballester of Spain. Kent, who hails from Naples, Florida, has credited his newfound passion and competitiveness for golf to an ATV accident that sidelined him for 11 weeks last year. Following the injury, Kent has demonstrated an impressive ability to thrive under pressure, as evidenced by his strong performance throughout the tournament.

Kent’s journey to the finals has been influenced by his family’s connection to golf, particularly his father’s participation in the 1990 U.S. Junior Amateur and his stepfather’s role as a golf course architect. After meeting Rory McIlroy in 2017, Kent’s interest in golf spiked, leading to valuable mentorships with notable figures such as John Harris and John Cook. Harris, who won the 1993 U.S. Amateur, instilled a sense of self-belief in Kent that has been crucial to his success on the course.

In contrast, Ballester, a three-time All-American at Arizona State, has displayed exceptional ball-striking skills and a calm demeanor throughout the tournament. His path to the finals includes a strong victory over compatriot Luis Masaveu in the semifinals. Ballester’s connection to golfing greats like Sergio Garcia has played a significant role in his development as a player, with Garcia offering his support and congratulations on Ballester’s success.

As Kent and Ballester prepare for the championship match, both players have already secured exemptions into the 2025 U.S. Open, as well as likely invitations to the Masters. The final showdown promises to be a memorable conclusion to what both players have described as the best week of their lives. With Kent’s fierce competitive spirit and Ballester’s unwavering focus and skill, the stage is set for a compelling battle for the coveted U.S. Amateur title.

In addition to their individual journeys, Kent and Ballester have been supported by enthusiastic fan bases, including family members, friends, and mentors. Kent’s uncle and fellow Hawkeye supporters have been a vocal presence in the crowd, adding to the hometown feel of the tournament. Ballester, on the other hand, has received encouragement from legendary players like Sergio Garcia, further cementing his status as a rising star in the golfing world.

The final match at Hazeltine National promises to be a showcase of talent, determination, and sportsmanship from both Kent and Ballester. As they compete for the prestigious U.S. Amateur title, their unique paths to the finals and unwavering dedication to the game will be on full display. With the support of their respective communities and the thrill of competing on a national stage, Kent and Ballester are poised to deliver a spectacular conclusion to what has been a remarkable tournament for both players.
