Adam Scott reminisces on past successes as Ludvig Aberg keeps pace in top 5 at BMW Championship

Adam Scott, a 44-year-old Australian professional golfer, reflected on his long career in the PGA Tour as one of the older players, while competing at the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club. Scott started his career 24 years ago and accepted a sponsor’s invite to the International, one of his first U.S. Tour starts. Along with Jason Day, he is one of the only two players in the 50-man field who previously competed at the event. Despite his achievements such as winning the Masters and reaching world No. 1, Scott has not secured a victory on the Tour in four years.

Scott acknowledged the challenges of keeping up with the younger players in terms of speed, practice, motivation, and drive. However, on a memorable Friday at the BMW Championship, Scott surprised everyone by shooting a bogey-free 9-under 63, setting a course record. While the field did not expect scores as low as 9-under, Scott’s preparation and performance led to his success, with impressive putting statistics ranking him third in Strokes Gained: putting on Thursday and first on Friday.

Having struggled with his iron play but consistently strong putting, Scott experimented with different equipment this year, switching between cavity-back and blade irons. Despite trying cavity-back irons for their forgiveness, he ultimately feels most comfortable and confident with his blade irons under pressure. His decision paid off at the BMW Championship, where he showcased his skill by hitting precise shots like a 6-iron to 4 feet on the par-3 16th hole.

Scott emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities on the golf course and making the most of favorable situations to stay competitive in the field. His strategic mindset and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities allowed him to excel at the BMW Championship, leading to a remarkable performance and course record. Looking back on his long career, Scott remains grateful for the experiences and challenges that have shaped him as a golfer and a competitor in the sport.

As Scott continues to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of professional golf, he remains focused on refining his game, adapting to new trends, and staying true to his strengths as a player. With his recent success at the BMW Championship serving as a testament to his resilience and determination, Scott is poised to continue making an impact on the Tour and inspiring fellow golfers with his tenacity and passion for the game.
