Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari have been announced as the captains for the upcoming DP World Tour’s Team Cup, where Great Britain and Ireland will take on Continental Europe in Abu Dhabi in January. This will be Rose’s first time as captain, while Molinari previously led Continental Europe to victory in the Team Cup’s inaugural edition two years ago. The event will take place on the National Course at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort from January 10-12 next year.

Rose expressed his excitement about competing against Molinari in a match play competition, rather than being on the same team. He acknowledged the challenge ahead, given Molinari’s proven track record in this contest and the Ryder Cup. However, Rose is looking forward to the opportunity to lead and mold the talented players from Great Britain and Ireland into a winning team for the DP World Tour.

Both teams will consist of 10 DP World Tour members for the three-day match play contest. Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald will oversee the proceedings in the United Arab Emirates. The captains, along with Donald, will select the remaining five players for each side based on the final 2024 Race to Dubai rankings. The Team Cup format includes match play sessions of fourballs, foursomes, and singles matches across the three days.

The Team Cup was first held in 2023, with Molinari leading Continental Europe to a 14.5-10.5 victory over a team led by Tommy Fleetwood. Molinari expressed his delight at being chosen as captain again and the opportunity to defend the Team Cup title. He emphasized the camaraderie and teamwork displayed by players from various European countries working towards a common goal during the previous edition of the event.

The upcoming competition promises to be an exciting and challenging experience for both captains and their respective teams. Molinari highlighted his respect for Rose as a fierce competitor, and he is eager to face the challenge of competing against him and his team. The event offers a platform for showcasing the talent and skills of golfers from across Great Britain, Ireland, and Continental Europe on the DP World Tour.

Fans can expect an intense and thrilling competition as the top players from both teams battle it out on the National Course in Abu Dhabi. With experienced captains like Rose and Molinari at the helm, the match play format of the Team Cup is sure to deliver exciting and unpredictable moments throughout the three days of competition. As the countdown to January begins, golf enthusiasts can look forward to witnessing top-tier golfing action at one of the most prestigious events on the DP World Tour calendar.
