The Golfweek D-III October Classic, held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Florida, is a highly anticipated event for collegiate golf teams. The men’s field will compete on the Raven course, while the women’s field will battle it out on the Links course. The event serves as a preview for potential contenders at the national championship in the spring, with top-ranked teams from the Bushnell/Golfweek coaches poll and Mizuno WGCA coaches poll participating.

Defending champion Methodist University leads a strong men’s field that features the top-seven teams in the coaches poll. On the women’s side, defending champion Pomona-Pitzer and other top-ranked schools will be competing, making for a highly competitive tournament. The addition of more top teams has made this year’s Golfweek October Classic even more challenging for all participants.

The Golfweek October Classic has a rich history as one of the top events on the Div. III calendar, providing teams with a valuable opportunity to assess their performance before the winter break. Both the men’s and women’s tournaments have been held at Sandestin since 2011, with the Raven course previously hosting the 2013 Division III National Championship. The Raven course has also hosted the PGA Tour Champions’ Boeing Championship in 2006 and 2007, adding to the prestige of the event.

The tournament format includes one round on each course for the men, followed by a 36-hole cut for the top 15 teams who will then compete on the Raven course. This challenging setup allows teams to showcase their skills and test their abilities against the best in the nation. With the national championship in sight, the Golfweek October Classic serves as a crucial stepping stone for teams aiming to contend for the ultimate title in the spring.

The competitive nature of the Golfweek October Classic creates an exciting atmosphere for both players and spectators, with intense competition and high stakes on the line. As teams vie for the top spot and individual players showcase their talent, the tournament serves as a stage for up-and-coming stars to make a name for themselves in the world of collegiate golf. The event draws attention from golf enthusiasts and college sports fans alike, highlighting the talent and dedication of Div. III golf programs.

Overall, the Golfweek D-III October Classic in Sandestin, Florida, is a must-see event for any golf fan looking to witness the top collegiate teams in action. With a field of highly ranked teams and challenging courses, the tournament offers a glimpse into the future of collegiate golf and provides a platform for players to shine on a national stage. Whether you’re a die-hard golf fan or a casual observer, the Golfweek October Classic is sure to deliver thrilling moments and impressive performances from some of the best players in Div. III golf.
