Introducing the new Sweetens Cove Short Course as part of our suite of offerings

Sweetens Cove, a quirky and charming 9-hole course in Tennessee, is looking to expand its appeal by adding a new par-3 short course and a variety of amenities. The expansion plans, announced by ownership, include stay-and-play cabins, a putting green, a fishing dock, a skeet shooting range, and a restaurant and distillery. The architects of the new short course will be Rob Collins and Tad King of King-Collings Golf Design, with construction set to begin next year and completion expected by 2026.

Despite the high demand for Sweetens Cove, the expansion aims to maintain the property’s unique culture and focus on providing a quality experience for all visitors. Initially an underdog course when it opened in 2015, Sweetens Cove gained popularity through social media and national press, evolving into a cult favorite and attracting high-profile investors like Peyton Manning and Andy Roddick. The course’s unconventional operations, including no tee times and unlimited-play daily passes, have contributed to its distinct reputation.

Reef Capital Partners, a real estate development company with a growing presence in golf, is spearheading the expansion at Sweetens Cove. In addition to the new amenities, the project will include a small-batch distillery and bottle shop to showcase Sweetens Cove Whiskey. CEO Jared Lucero aims to enhance the visitor experience by offering accommodations, dining options, and more activities to make each visit memorable.

The new par-3 course at Sweetens Cove, designed by Rob Collins, will reflect the course’s unique aesthetic and offer players a different style of play. The expansion plans come after a challenging year for Sweetens Cove, which had to shut down for three months due to turf conditions following a harsh winter. Since reopening in late August, the course has been running at full capacity and is sold out through the end of 2024.

The growth and expansion of Sweetens Cove are part of a larger trend in the golf industry, with properties seeking to enhance their offerings to cater to a broader audience. The success of Sweetens Cove as a sought-after destination highlights the potential for other courses to attract visitors through unique experiences and amenities. The addition of a par-3 course and new facilities at Sweetens Cove will further elevate its status as a premier golf destination in Tennessee.

As the expansion project progresses, Sweetens Cove aims to maintain its reputation for providing a high-quality and memorable experience for all visitors. The new amenities, including stay-and-play cabins, a distillery, and dining options, will complement the existing golf course and enhance the overall experience for players and guests. With construction set to begin next year, the expanded Sweetens Cove is on track to be completed by 2026, offering a new and improved golf experience for all who visit.
