Ending its 27th straight season, the enduring player-caddie partnership in golf is not finished yet

The story of Billy Andrade and his caddie, Mark “Ziggy” Zyons, is a tale of a longstanding partnership that has stood the test of time. With Andrade turning 60, he decided to make a return to the PGA Tour after an 11-year absence, and he needed a wingman for the World Wide Technology Championship. Zyons, who had been by Andrade’s side for the past 27 years, was more than willing to step up and take on the challenge.

Zyons, who had previously won the Rhode Island State Amateur in 1985, had been caddying for Andrade since the 1997 Phoenix Open. Their partnership has outlasted many others in the golfing world, including the likes of Phil Mickelson and Jim “Bones” Mackay. Despite a few bumps along the way, their relationship has been built on trust and mutual respect.

Andrade recalls a moment when he realized that Zyons was the caddie for him. During a round with Zyons and Tim Herron, Andrade noticed the way they communicated and decided to make a change. He fired his previous caddie and reached out to Zyons, who has been by his side ever since.

The key to their longevity, according to Zyons, is that he was never scared of getting fired. This mindset allowed him to focus on doing his job right and not worry about losing his position. Andrade appreciates Zyons’ honesty and willingness to speak his mind, even when things get tough on the course.

As Andrade prepares for his return to the PGA Tour, he knows that he can count on Zyons to be his reliable wingman. Their partnership has spanned almost three decades and has withstood the pressures and challenges of the professional golfing world. With Zyons by his side, Andrade is looking forward to making the most of his opportunity at the World Wide Technology Championship in Los Cabos, Mexico.
