Clarisa Temelo, an 18-year-old freshman at Arkansas and native of Mexico, secured a significant victory by winning the 2024 Women’s Amateur Latin America tournament with a commanding six-shot lead over her competitors. Her final score of 9-under 275 at Lima Golf Club in Peru propelled her to victory, and she expressed her joy and excitement at the prospect of competing in three major championships in 2025 as a result of her win. Temelo mentioned that she tried to savor every moment on the course, and the thought of playing in prestigious events like the Chevron Championship, Amundi Evian Championship, and AIG Women’s Open felt like a dream come true for her.

Temelo’s victory was particularly special as it followed in the footsteps of Ela Anacona, who had won the same tournament the previous year while also attending the University of Arkansas. The young golfer discussed her admiration for Anacona and expressed her eagerness to represent her university at such prestigious events. With the win, Temelo not only secured exemptions into major championships but also earned a spot in the Women’s Amateur Championship the following year, adding to her list of accolades at a young age. She highlighted the importance of each tournament in the world of golf and expressed her excitement at the prospect of competing on renowned courses and against top athletes in the field.

Despite facing tough competition, Temelo led from start to finish in the tournament, although her winning margin was only half as large as Anacona’s from the previous year. The Women’s Amateur Latin America championship, organized by the R&A and the Annika Foundation, has grown in significance over the years, showcasing the talents of young female golfers in the region and providing them with valuable opportunities to showcase their skills on an international stage. The upcoming edition of the tournament is set to take place in Mexico for the first time, further expanding its reach and impact on the Latin American golf community.

Temelo’s triumph in the Women’s Amateur Latin America tournament not only solidified her status as a rising star in the world of golf but also opened doors to prestigious events that will allow her to further hone her skills and compete against the best in the sport. Her dedication and passion for the game have fueled her success, and she remains focused on making the most of the opportunities that lie ahead in her promising career. As she prepares to step onto the greens of major championships in 2025, Temelo’s journey serves as an inspiration to young golfers aspiring to reach the pinnacle of their sport and make a mark on the global stage.
