The 2025 Waste Management Phoenix Open is set to be better than ever, with some significant changes being made to enhance the overall experience for players and fans alike. The tournament director, Matt Mooney, has emphasized the importance of not just making the event bigger, but making it better. One of the major changes being implemented is a stronger focus on enforcing a fan code of conduct to prevent unruly behavior and ensure a positive experience for all attendees.

Following incidents from the 2024 event that went viral on social media, Mooney and Thunderbirds executive director Chance Cosby met with players individually to address concerns and ensure they feel safe and supported during the tournament. They are implementing a zero-tolerance policy for fans who violate the code of conduct, with a heavy police presence to ensure compliance. This is to prevent individuals from seeking a viral moment at the expense of players and other fans.

To improve crowd control and streamline entry points, a new entrance near the 18th tee box has been introduced. This will help alleviate pressure in high-traffic areas and enhance the overall flow of attendees throughout the course. Additionally, a new digital ticketing system and elimination of “good any day” passes will provide organizers with more control over crowd numbers and better data on attendees, leading to a more efficient and accountable entry process.

The popular footrace to the 16th hole, a longstanding tradition at the Phoenix Open, will continue to be a highlight for fans. Despite the early morning start and challenging weather conditions, fans are dedicated to securing a prime spot at the 16th hole, showcasing their commitment to the event. Mooney recognizes the significance of this tradition and plans to maintain it as an iconic moment of the tournament.

Despite the challenges faced during the 2024 event, players continue to express their love for the Waste Management Phoenix Open and the unique atmosphere it provides. After gathering feedback from Tour players, organizers are focused on making gradual tweaks that enhance the event without compromising its core identity. The tournament has been recognized as a five-time tournament of the year in the past decade, highlighting its status as the biggest event on the PGA Tour.

Overall, the 2025 Waste Management Phoenix Open promises to deliver an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike. With a renewed focus on maintaining a positive and respectful atmosphere, implementing practical changes to enhance crowd control, and preserving beloved traditions, the tournament is poised to be a standout event on the PGA Tour. By listening to feedback from players and prioritizing the integrity of the event, organizers are committed to ensuring that the Greenest Show on Grass continues to captivate audiences and maintain its reputation as a premier golf tournament.
