NBC Sports has announced the hiring of Kevin Kisner as its newest lead golf analyst after a nine-month courtship. The decision came after Kisner impressed NBC Sports brass as a temporary lead analyst for several PGA Tour events and a season-ending FedEx Cup Playoff events. Despite Kisner’s two years of remaining PGA Tour eligibility, NBC was ready to go all-in on him as a full-time analyst. The decision was made after a meeting between Kisner and NBC Sports executives, where they discussed the future of golf and how Kisner could fit into their team.

Kisner, who is 40 years old with one year remaining of PGA Tour eligibility, agreed to take on 10 events in 2025 as the permanent lead analyst for NBC Golf. If his playing career interferes with the arrangement, NBC has agreed to be flexible. NBC sees Kisner as worth the investment, as he was the top performer among analysts tested in 2024. Despite not being a major championship winner, Kisner brings a unique perspective and a fresh approach to golf TV commentary.

Criticism is seen as an art form in the lead analyst’s chair, and Kisner’s ability to offer insightful and entertaining commentary sets him apart. NBC has implemented a new “odd-even” format for its broadcasts, splitting play-by-play and analyst duties between teams designated to odd and even-numbered holes. This strategy aims to facilitate a conversation between broadcasters that fans can “eavesdrop” on, creating a more engaging viewing experience.

Kisner’s role at NBC is to bridge the gap between players and fans, offering a perspective that appeals to both audiences. He aims to provide truthful and insightful commentary without disrespecting players or hurting their brands. Kisner’s unique blend of humor, honesty, and understanding of the sports media landscape makes him a valuable addition to NBC’s broadcast team.

Overall, Kisner’s transition from professional golfer to lead golf analyst represents a new era in golf broadcasting. His ability to navigate the complexities of the sports media world while maintaining a strong connection to the players sets him apart. As he steps into the lead analyst role for NBC Golf, Kisner’s fresh perspective and entertaining commentary are sure to captivate audiences and enhance the viewing experience for golf fans worldwide.
