The TGL, or The Golf League, kicked off on the 7th of January with four matches having taken place as of the 28th of January. Six teams are participating in this unique golf tournament, with each team having played at least one match before the end of the month. The first-ever TGL match was won by The Bay GC, who defeated New York GC. The scoring system in TGL involves one point being up for grabs on each hole, with the team with the fewest shots winning the point. If teams are tied after 15 holes, they compete in an overtime tiebreaker.

Teams can earn two points for a win in regulation or overtime, while a loss in overtime sees the team winning one point, similar to the scoring system in the NHL. However, a team that loses in regulation walks away empty-handed. Los Angeles GC currently leads the standings via hole difference, with the trio of Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, and Sahith Theegala claiming a 12-1 victory over Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC. The Bay GC sits in second place after winning their opening match against New York GC.

New York GC and Jupiter Links GC are the only teams to have played two matches each, with New York GC, consisting of Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Cameron Young, losing both matches. Jupiter Links GC avenged their initial defeat with a thrilling overtime victory against Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common. The league promises excitement and competitiveness, with each match delivering enthralling golf action. The upcoming matches are eagerly anticipated by fans and players alike.

The TGL SoFi Cup standings see Los Angeles GC in the lead with 2 points, followed by The Bay GC, Atlanta Drive GC, Jupiter Links GC, Boston Common GC, and New York Golf Club. The schedule and results of the matches are listed, showcasing the upcoming games and the outcomes of the games that have already taken place. With an array of talented golfers representing their teams, the TGL is shaping up to be an exciting and competitive league that is captivating golf enthusiasts worldwide.

Fans of the sport can stay updated with all the latest tour news, equipment reviews, head-to-heads, and buyer’s guides by subscribing to the Golf Monthly newsletter. The tournament’s structure and scoring system add a layer of excitement to the traditional game of golf, making it a must-watch event for golf enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more thrilling action as the TGL progresses towards the finals series in March.
