Review of the PGA Tour 2K25 Video Game

Tiger Woods is back on the cover of a golf video game, this time with 2K Sports. The game boasts a brand new swing system, licensed major championships, and almost 30 licensed courses. With so much on offer, has 2K set a new standard for golf video games? In this review, we take a closer look at the gameplay, game modes, golfers and courses, and give our verdict on PGA TOUR 2K25.

When it comes to gameplay, 2K has struck a balance between arcade-like fun and realistic, challenging gameplay. The new Evo Swing mechanic is praised for its realism and challenge, while the Perfect Swing difficulty setting caters to newer players. However, the short game mechanics may take some time to get used to, with pitch and chip shots feeling clunky and unpredictable.

In terms of game modes, MyCAREER offers a vast and customizable experience. Players can choose to start their journey at various points, from Q-School to the PGA TOUR. Licensing agreements have enabled 2K to include three major championships and a fully licensed PGA Tour season. While the customization options are a strong point, features like the ‘rivals’ system and outdated equipment and clothing may leave players wanting more.

The course creator feature allows players to create and share their own courses, adding an element of creativity and challenge to the game. With 29 courses included at launch, including iconic venues like TPC Sawgrass and Royal Portrush, the game offers a diverse and visually appealing experience. The graphics have also seen significant improvement, though some may still find them slightly behind EA Sports’ PGA Tour.

The roster of playable professionals is limited, with only eleven players to choose from. Despite this, top male and female players like Tiger Woods, Lydia Ko, and Justin Thomas are included. Tiger Woods, the highest rated player in the game, adds to the excitement and challenge of gameplay. The overall experience may not be perfect, but PGA TOUR 2K25 stands out as 2K’s most complete golf game yet.

In conclusion, PGA TOUR 2K25 offers a compelling gameplay experience with its new swing mechanics and vast customization options. While some features may fall short of expectations, the game still presents a strong challenge and immersive golfing experience. For fans of golf video games looking for a new and exciting option, PGA TOUR 2K25 is worth the investment. With its release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam, players can dive into the world of pro golf and compete against the best in the game.
