Jordan Spieth, a three-time major champion, is on a journey back to his old self following offseason wrist surgery. His return to competitive golf has been a mixed bag, with some promising performances and some struggles. Spieth played well at the Cognizant Classic with a T9 finish but missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational. He arrived at the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio looking to polish up every aspect of his game in preparation for the 2025 Masters. Despite shooting a five-under 67 in the first round, Spieth struggled on Friday, bogeying two of his final three holes and missing a key birdie putt. This has been a recurring issue for Spieth in recent tournaments, where he has had trouble closing out rounds on Fridays.

Spieth currently ranks 44th or lower in all key Strokes Gained metrics, including putting, approach shots, and off the tee. It has been eight years since his last major win and three since his last PGA Tour victory. Spieth has described his swing as “wet concrete” before his return and has been working to rediscover his old form. Despite his struggles, Spieth remains optimistic about his progress and is focused on building himself back up. He knows that the road to recovery won’t be linear, but he has seen more good days than bad on his journey back to the top of his game.

Spieth shared his thoughts on the Masters, expressing his desire to return to top form and compete at Augusta National. He acknowledges that he is not playing like the Spieth of old but is working hard to get there. Spieth is battling through the challenges of rebuilding his game and overcoming bad habits that had developed during his time off. Despite the setbacks, Spieth remains determined and optimistic about his future in competitive golf. He knows that he won’t arrive at the Masters in top form, but he is confident that the spirit of the tournament will bring out the best in him.

As Spieth continues his journey back to his old self, he is focused on making incremental progress and staying dedicated to his craft. He understands that the process of rebuilding his game will take time and patience but remains committed to regaining his former glory. With the Masters approaching, Spieth is eager to showcase his improved skills and compete against the best in the world. Despite the challenges he has faced, Spieth’s determination and resilience will be key factors in his success moving forward. The golf world eagerly awaits Spieth’s return to top form and his pursuit of another major championship victory.
