Jeeno Thitikul: A Historic Season in the LPGA

NAPLES, Fla. — The curtains closed on the 2025 LPGA season with an unforgettable spectacle, as Jeeno Thitikul lifted her arms in triumph after successfully defending her title at the CME Group Tour Championship. This victory not only solidified her status as a top competitor but also etched her name in LPGA history. Thitikul’s performance throughout the season was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing her impressive skills and resilience.

Entering the final round at Tiburon Golf Club with a commanding six-shot lead over fellow competitors Nelly Korda and Pajaree Anannarukarn, Thitikul appeared to be on the verge of a historic achievement. Despite a moment of pressure when Anannarukarn closed the gap to two strokes at the turn, Thitikul showcased her ability to perform under pressure. A birdie on No. 10 and a bogey from Anannarukarn on No. 12 reinstated her lead, reinforcing the narrative that victory was almost a foregone conclusion.

The stakes were heightened for Thitikul as she aimed to break Annika Sorenstam’s long-standing record for the best single-season scoring average in LPGA history. With a scoring average of 68.681, Thitikul needed to finish her final round with a three-under-par 69 or better to surpass Sorenstam’s impressive 68.897 from 2002. The tension was palpable as she birdied No. 13, reaching three under for the round, and capped off her day with a ten-foot birdie on the 18th hole—securing her place in golfing lore.

In her jubilant reflection on the achievement, Thitikul expressed her disbelief: “It’s such an honor. I never dreamed I’d have a record like this. It’s really amazing.” This sentiment encapsulated the whirlwind of emotions surrounding her triumph, as she joined the elite ranks of professional golfers.

Thitikul’s third win of the season, coupled with her seventh career victory, underscores her consistency and dedication. Statistics reveal that she led almost every significant metric this season—most notably in wins, runner-ups, and scoring averages. She clinched the coveted Player of the Year Trophy alongside the Vare Trophy for her exemplary scoring, cementing her status as a standout athlete in women’s golf.

However, the journey was not without its challenges. The 2025 season was a rollercoaster for Thitikul; she experienced triumphs mixed with heart-wrenching defeats. After overtaking Korda as the World No. 1, Thitikul found herself facing adversity in critical moments—a playoff loss to Grace Kim at the Evian, a last-hole bogey to surrender the FM Championship, and a dramatic four-putt finish at the Kroger Queen City Championship that led to a loss against Charley Hull. These experiences shaped her character and approach to the sport.

“When I remember my year, I think of the time after Kroger,” she shared. “I had an ice pack on my eyes because I cried so much. That’s a moment I won’t forget.” This reflective moment serves as a poignant reminder of the highs and lows that define the life of a professional athlete.

In turn, Thitikul transformed her setbacks into motivation. A few weeks after the disappointment in Cincinnati, she achieved what many deemed improbable—a stunning comeback at the Buick LPGA Shanghai, where she became the season’s first repeat winner. This victory not only restored her confidence but also solidified her standing in the LPGA as a competitor who could swiftly recover from adversity.

Arriving at Tiburon Golf Club for the finals, the weight of the season’s emotional journey was palpable. Thitikul had not only battled her opponents but also navigated the complex landscape of her feelings throughout the season, demonstrating her growth as an athlete. Her ability to maintain focus and determination amidst this season’s challenges spoke volumes about her character.

“This year taught me to be more humble,” Thitikul reflected. “You can be on top today, but that could change in an instant. Nothing lasts forever.” This wisdom is a testament to her maturity and understanding of the sport, reminding us that even the brightest stars in golf must navigate the same trials as their competitors.

Ultimately, Thitikul’s 2025 season, culminating in a resounding win in Naples, will be etched in LPGA history. It marks not only her impressive statistics and records; it also highlights her emotional journey—the bittersweet moments mingled with triumphs that weave the fabric of a champion’s story. As golf fans eagerly anticipate the future, one thing is certain: Jeeno Thitikul is poised to leave her mark on the sport for years to come. Whether she’s sinking a pivotal putt or reflecting on a challenging season, her journey is a compelling narrative for athletes and fans alike.
