Everything You Need to Know About TaylorMade’s P·UDI and P·DHY Utility Irons

TaylorMade has rebranded its utility irons as part of the “P” family, offering a better-players look, feel, and performance for the long section of the bag. The new P·UDI and P·DHY models aim to replace long irons, hybrids, or high-lofted fairway woods with a flatter, more penetrating flight while maintaining the ball speed of a flexible face iron. Internal tungsten weighting boosts forgiveness, particularly in the P·DHY, making it the most forgiving iron in the TaylorMade lineup.

The price for the P·UDI and P·DHY models is $250 each, with varying lofts available. The UST Mamiya Recoil DART shaft comes in three flex options. These clubs will be available starting May 3rd.

TaylorMade’s director of product creation, iron, and wedge, Matt Bovee, emphasizes that the new utility irons cater to a broader range of players, not just elite ones. Data shows that players across a spectrum of handicaps have purchased past versions of these clubs to fill distance gaps in their bags.

The P·UDI and P·DHY feature hidden tungsten weighting to improve launch conditions, with wide soles for added forgiveness. The P·UDI has a shorter blade length for easier launch, while the P·DHY keeps mass low with a wider sole for stability.

The utility irons offer a unique kind of forgiveness preferred by better players, with thin steel faces, foam inserts, and L-shaped designs for better rebound. The internal tungsten weighting and wide soles make the P·DHY the most forgiving long iron in TaylorMade’s lineup.

Both models are optimized for different CG placements to cater to specific playing needs. The fitting process for these utility irons has been expanded to include more facilities offering fitting options for the P·UDI and P·DHY along with heavier shaft options.

The P·DHY appeals to a broader audience than the P·UDI due to its lower center of gravity, making it easier to launch. These clubs are designed for better players seeking a more traditional look with improved performance benefits.

Choosing between the P·UDI and P·DHY will depend on individual swing speeds and launch preferences. While neither club is a permanent replacement, they offer versatile options depending on course conditions and player preferences.

Ultimately, these utility irons are targeted towards better players looking for alternative options to long irons, hybrids, or fairway woods. The forgiving features and optimized designs make them suitable for a wide range of players, offering improved performance and playability in the long game.
