TaylorMade has recently introduced the P•UDI and P•DHy utility irons, priced at $249 each with the UST Mamiya Recoil DART shaft and Golf Pride Z-grip. These clubs feature a hollow-body design with a forged 41040 stainless steel face, vibration-dampening foam, and tungsten weight. They are available as 2-, 3-, and 4-irons, making them perfect for golfers looking for a versatile club that can be used as a long-iron alternative. The P•UDI and P•DHy offer a lower ball flight than a hybrid but higher and farther than a typical long iron.
Designed to bridge the gap between a player’s last fairway wood and first iron, the P•UDI and P•DHy provide a hybrid-like distance with a lower ball flight and iron-style control. These utility irons are ideal for players who prefer a piercing shot that can be turned with a draw or fade in windy conditions or on firm courses. The clubs offer a traditional sole width and Speed Pocket slot, resembling extensions of TaylorMade’s P•790 or P•770 sets.
The P•UDI and P•DHy have a forged 4140 stainless steel face attached to a stainless steel body, creating a hollow chamber inside each head. They feature thick and thin back walls that save weight, along with an internal tungsten piece that shifts the center of gravity location. The P•UDI produces a lower ball flight compared to the P•DHy, which has a lower profile and longer blade length. Both clubs create lower shots than similarly lofted hybrids, with a Speed Pocket slot in the sole to enhance flex on low-struck shots.
To improve sound and feel, the P•UDI and P•DHy come with SpeedFoam Air injected into the hollow cavity. This technology absorbs vibrations without impeding face flexing or reducing ball speed. The clubs offer forgiveness, with the P•UDI being more forgiving than the P•790. The P•DHy is claimed to be the most forgiving iron in TaylorMade’s series, including game-improvement models. In the address position, the P•UDI looks like a standard better player’s iron, while the P•DHy is more confidence-inspiring to many golfers.
The P•UDI and P•DHy are intended to be played primarily off the tee and are equipped with graphite shafts. The P•UDI offers a shorter blade length and less offset than the P•DHy. TaylorMade ensures that the clubs provide a balance between distance and versatility, making them a valuable addition to any golfer’s bag. With their unique design and advanced technologies, the P•UDI and P•DHy utility irons cater to players who seek a premium experience on the course.
