Camilo and Maria Villegas endured the heartbreaking journey of their daughter, Mia, battling brain and spine tumors that ultimately led to her passing at just 22 months old. Despite the immense pain and grief, the couple found inspiration in the 163 days of Mia’s fight, realizing the fortunate position they were in compared to many other families facing similar struggles. They were able to focus on their daughter without financial worries, receiving support from loved ones and resources to help them through the ordeal.

In the aftermath of Mia’s death, Camilo and Maria channeled their pain into a foundation called Mia’s Miracles. The foundation aims to provide financial and emotional support to families dealing with challenging circumstances, continuing Mia’s legacy of love and compassion. Through various initiatives like funding travel expenses for families to be together during difficult times and offering grants for medical costs, Mia’s Miracles has raised over $2 million and is making a significant impact in the lives of those in need.

The Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami played a crucial role in Mia’s treatment, with Jack and Barbara Nicklaus providing unwavering support to the Villegas family during their darkest hours. The hospital, renamed in honor of the Nicklaus family, offers world-class pediatric care, helping children like Mia receive the best possible treatment and support.

Camilo Villegas, a successful PGA Tour pro, found solace and healing in golf following Mia’s passing. Returning to the fairways and competing in tournaments allowed him to focus on his work and find a sense of purpose amid the grief. Maria, on the other hand, sought solace in the healing power of the beach, finding peace and rejuvenation in the ocean’s energy during her walks.

The birth of Mateo Villegas, the couple’s second child, brought a new sense of hope and joy to the family. Mateo’s arrival symbolized a new beginning and a reminder of life’s miracles, serving as a source of comfort and inspiration for Maria as she continues to fulfill Mia’s legacy through Mia’s Miracles. The foundation’s upcoming Miles for Miracles fundraiser on Mother’s Day aims to raise awareness and funds to support more families in need.

Through their foundation and personal journey, Camilo and Maria Villegas have turned tragedy into a beacon of hope and support for others facing similar challenges. Their resilience, compassion, and dedication to helping families in need honor Mia’s memory and serve as a testament to the power of love and community in times of adversity.
