Is Tiger Woods Exiting Nike? Golf Star Remains Mum on Rumors

In recent news, there have been rumors circulating in the golf industry that Tiger Woods may be parting ways with Nike, the popular apparel manufacturer that he has been partnered with since 1996. Woods, who recently played with his son Charlie at the PNC Championship, is nearing the end of a 10-year extension he signed with Nike back in 2013. Speculation about the potential split between Woods and Nike has been fueled by comments made by Woods himself during a post-round interview at the PNC Championship.

During the interview, Woods was asked about his relationship with Nike, to which he responded by saying, “I’m still wearing their product.” When pressed further about his future with the brand, Woods gave a similar response, leading many to believe that his long-standing partnership with Nike may be coming to an end. Woods first signed with Nike in 1996, inking a five-year, $40 million deal when he turned pro. Since then, his contract with the company has been renewed multiple times, with Woods reportedly earning a staggering $500 million over the lifetime of the agreement.

Despite his close ties to Nike over the years, Woods has made some notable deviations from the brand in recent times. In 2016, Nike made the decision to exit the golf equipment business, prompting Woods to switch to TaylorMade clubs and Bridgestone golf balls. Additionally, when Woods made his comeback at the 2022 Masters following a serious car accident in 2021, he was spotted wearing FootJoy shoes instead of Nike. This shift in footwear raised questions about the status of Woods’ relationship with Nike, especially as he continued to wear FootJoys in subsequent tournaments.

There is also speculation that Nike may be considering exiting the golf business altogether or potentially licensing out its golf brand to another company. Despite these rumors, Nike has remained tight-lipped on the matter, leaving fans and industry insiders to wonder about the future of the brand in the golf world. Currently, Nike boasts a roster of top professional golfers including Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler, Nelly Korda, and Tony Finau. As the situation continues to unfold, many are eagerly awaiting an official announcement from both Tiger Woods and Nike regarding the status of their partnership and the future of Nike’s presence in the golf industry.
