Louisville was buzzing with excitement as Tiger Woods returned to Valhalla Golf Club for his 23rd PGA Championship. Starting on the 10th hole for the first round, Woods faced a challenging day on the course. Despite a strong following on the front nine, Woods struggled to keep up with the competition, with Xander Schauffele already six shots ahead with a remarkable score of 62.

With only five competitive rounds under his belt this year, Woods navigated the course relatively well, finishing at one over par through 16 holes. However, fatigue or loss of focus seemed to affect him towards the end, as he three-putted on the final two greens, finishing with a one-over 72. Woods expressed disappointment in his performance, particularly in his putting on the last two holes.

Despite his struggles, Woods had shown promising signs earlier in the round, sinking key putts to save par and secure birdies. His time spent practicing on the green seemed to be paying off, as he was able to make crucial putts throughout the round. However, his game off the tee was a different story, with Woods missing five fairways and subsequently five greens.

Woods acknowledged the challenges posed by the dense rough at Valhalla, emphasizing the need to stay out of it in future rounds. He recognized the areas he needed to improve on and remained optimistic about his performance. The 48-year-old golfer mentioned the importance of playing more competitive rounds to build his strength and maintain his focus on the course.

While Woods faced ups and downs throughout the round, his ability to grind through the challenges and continue pushing forward was commendable. Despite the disappointing finish at Valhalla, Woods remained determined to improve and show his capabilities on the course. As he continues to compete in major tournaments, Woods will work on refining his game and overcoming obstacles to achieve success in the future.
