Ex-NFL kicking legend applies expertise in tempo and mechanics to develop innovative golf app

Former NFL kicker John Carney started his technology journey in a hardware store in 2009. After transitioning from playing to coaching for the New Orleans Saints, Carney noticed issues with kicker Garrett Hartley’s technique. To address this, Carney built a device with Christmas lights and a toggle switch to help Hartley keep his head down during kicks. This unconventional method proved successful, as the Saints went on to win the Super Bowl that season.

As technology evolved, Carney developed his device into a mobile app, which kickers could use to improve their technique. Recognizing the similarities between kicking and golf swings, Carney saw an opportunity to help golfers improve their game as well. Thus, the Eyes On Golf app was born, designed to assist golfers with maintaining focus and tempo during their swings.

The Eyes On Golf app, priced at $1.99, works by flashing shapes and colors that golfers must recognize after making contact with the ball. This helps players maintain proper form and avoid the common mistake of looking up too quickly during their swing. Carney believes that tempo is crucial in both kicking and golf, and the app serves as a valuable tool for players looking to improve their consistency.

Carney’s experience as a kicker and coach has informed his approach to developing the Eyes On Golf app. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a consistent tempo and focusing on the ball through contact, drawing parallels between the two sports. By helping golfers understand the connection between tempo and technique, Carney aims to assist them in lowering their scores on the course.

The app’s straightforward design and practical approach make it a valuable tool for golfers of all skill levels. By reinforcing the fundamentals of proper technique and maintaining focus, the Eyes On Golf app offers a simple yet effective way for players to improve their game. Carney’s background in athletics and coaching lends credibility to the app’s effectiveness and his ability to help individuals reach their full potential on the golf course.

Despite his success with the Eyes On Golf app, Carney acknowledges that his busy schedule running football specialist camps and competitions in San Diego leaves little time for him to play golf himself. However, seeing others succeed and achieve their goals through his app brings satisfaction to Carney, making the sacrifice of his own playing time worthwhile. As he continues to expand his training business and help athletes improve their performance, Carney remains dedicated to using technology to enhance sports skills and promote success.
