Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas has undergone a major renovation led by renowned golf course architect Gil Hanse. PGA Tour player Kevin Kisner recently visited the course and shared his thoughts on the changes. Kisner was impressed by how quickly the restoration came together and praised the efforts of Hanse and his team. The membership was also excited about the improvements, which included the redo of the greens and the implementation of a new heating and cooling system to maintain optimal playing conditions during different seasons.

Kisner highlighted the importance of the green renovations, especially the use of hydronics to control moisture levels and ensure consistent playing surfaces. The new system will allow for better maintenance throughout the year, providing firm and fast greens that will enhance the overall golfing experience. The changes made to the bunkers were also significant, with a focus on making the course more playable for both Tour professionals and members. Kisner expressed his enthusiasm for the historic aspects of the course that have been brought back to life through the renovation, including references to the legendary golfer Ben Hogan.

While Kisner admitted that he did not have a significant role in the renovations, he was actively involved in the discussions and planning stages. He recounted a lengthy lunch meeting with Hanse, the superintendent, tournament chairman, Greens Committee representative, general manager, and a long-time member and former caddie. During this meeting, they reviewed each hole and shared their visions for the course. Kisner emphasized the importance of preserving the essence of the original design while making necessary improvements. He also mentioned the positive feedback received from other Tour players regarding the changes made to the course.

The collaboration between the various stakeholders involved in the renovations ensured that the changes made to Colonial Country Club were well-received by the membership and players alike. Kisner expressed confidence in the future success of the course, noting that it may take a year or two to fully appreciate the impact of the renovations. He also mentioned his excitement about the potential for the course to honor its rich history and provide a challenging yet enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels. Overall, Kisner’s visit to Colonial Country Club provided him with a positive outlook on the future of the course and its continued legacy in the world of golf.
