The Louisville Metro Police Department held a press conference to provide updates on the investigation into Scottie Scheffler’s May 17 arrest. The conference was led by Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg and police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, who confirmed that the charges against Scheffler will not be dropped. Despite speculation, the case will continue to move forward through the judicial process.

During the press conference, it was revealed that arresting officer Detective Bryan Gillis did not have his body-worn camera operational during the arrest. This was deemed a procedural violation, and Detective Gillis received corrective action for his policy violation. The specifics of this corrective action were not discussed during the conference.

The department released two videos related to the incident, one from a fixed camera across the street and another from a patrol car. These videos show Scheffler attempting to pull into a club, Gillis obstructing his progress, and the events that followed. Another video shows Scheffler passing by a police cruiser in handcuffs. However, at the request of the Louisville attorney’s office, no additional videos will be released until the legal process concludes.

In response to the charges, Scottie Scheffler’s attorney, Steven Romines, stated that Scheffler did not do anything wrong and that they are not interested in a settlement. The attorney emphasized that the case will either be dismissed or go to trial. Scheffler is facing charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. His arraignment is scheduled for June 3 in Louisville.

Overall, the press conference provided insight into the ongoing investigation into Scottie Scheffler’s arrest and shed light on some key details related to the case. The decision not to drop the charges signifies that the judicial process will be followed, and the department’s release of videos adds transparency to the incident. With Scheffler’s attorney expressing confidence in his innocence, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold. Stay tuned for more updates as the case progresses through the court system.
