How To

A simple exercise to fix your slicing problem

A common problem for many golfers is the slicing of their shots, which occurs when the clubface is open in relation to the club path at impact. This can result in the ball starting to the right of the target and curving even farther right, or starting left of the target and curving back to the right. To compensate for this, golfers often adjust their bodies more to the left of the target, but this only exacerbates the issue as the ball continues to curve. In order to prevent a slice, it is important to train the body to help the club swing down from the inside.

One of the main reasons for slicing the ball is initiating the downswing with a big rotation toward the target with the upper body, causing the club to swing on an out-to-in path. By focusing on leading with the lower body during the downswing and allowing the upper body to rotate on an axis, the club can move into the ball from inside the target line. This means the right shoulder should move down toward the ball while the left shoulder moves up and away from the target.

While improving your swing path takes practice on the range, incorporating exercises in the gym can also be beneficial. By rotating from a tilted axis, you can help cure your slice. One simple exercise that can assist in this process is demonstrated in a video. By working to develop a more efficient swing path and eliminating the banana ball, you can see improvements in your game and overall performance on the course.

Practicing proper swing mechanics can have a significant impact on your ability to hit straight shots and minimize slices. By understanding the science behind a slice and focusing on correcting your club path, you can make strides in improving your ball flight. Whether you are a right-handed golfer struggling with a slice or simply looking to refine your swing, incorporating these tips and exercises into your routine can lead to more consistent and accurate shots.

In addition to training the body for a better swing path, it is important to work on other aspects of your game to enhance your overall performance. This may include improving your grip, stance, and alignment to ensure you are set up for success before even taking a swing. By addressing these fundamental elements and practicing regularly, you can develop a more reliable and repeatable swing that leads to better ball flight and lower scores on the course.

Overall, understanding the cause of a slice and taking steps to correct it can make a significant difference in your golf game. By focusing on proper body mechanics, swing path, and overall technique, you can overcome slicing and improve your ball-striking consistency. With dedication to practice and a commitment to refining your skills, you can work towards eliminating the banana ball and hitting more accurate shots on the course.
