As the summer heat blazes on at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., players and caddies alike are feeling the effects of the high temperatures and humidity. With the thermometer hitting 95 degrees and the humidity at 55 percent, the “feels like” temperature on phone apps reads even higher at 100 degrees. Staying hydrated is key for anyone spending time outdoors, and for those at TPC River Highlands, the challenge is even greater.

Players like Akshay Bhatia have taken hydration seriously, with Bhatia revealing a bet with his caddie on who can consume more water during the tournament. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 130 pounds, Bhatia has been consuming seven to eight bottles of water a day along with electrolyte hydration supplements. Despite the focus on hydration, Bhatia has managed to maintain his strong performance on the course, shooting a 64 and 65 in the first two rounds and landing in second place.

Bhatia’s success at the Travelers Championship comes after a grueling schedule of seven consecutive weeks of tournament play. With 18 starts in 2024 and a PGA Tour win in April, Bhatia is looking to secure his first top-10 finish since his victory. Despite having nine top-25 results, Bhatia is aiming for continued improvement and consistency in his game.

Reflecting on his performance, Bhatia credits his hard work on technique and the guidance of his coach for his recent success. By focusing on building on his strong play and maintaining a consistent feel in his game, Bhatia is optimistic about his future performances on the tour. With a strong foundation in place, Bhatia is determined to continue honing his skills and pushing for more top finishes in upcoming tournaments.

In addition to his focus on hydration and technique, Bhatia’s mental approach to the game has played a crucial role in his success. By staying mentally sharp and focused on each shot, Bhatia is able to maintain his composure on the course, even under challenging conditions. As he continues to gain experience and confidence on the tour, Bhatia is poised for continued growth and success in his professional golf career.

As the Travelers Championship progresses, Bhatia’s impressive play has caught the attention of fans and fellow competitors alike. With his consistent performance and dedication to improvement, Bhatia is a rising star to watch in the world of professional golf. As he continues to challenge himself and push the boundaries of his game, Bhatia is poised to make a significant impact on the sport in the years to come.
