Darius Rucker, the frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, has a deep passion for golf, having played approximately 70 of the Top 100 Courses in the World. Starting at the age of 14, when his best friend’s dad introduced him to the sport at military bases in Charleston, South Carolina, Rucker fell in love with golf and has been a dedicated player ever since. One of his major contributions to the golf community is his charity event, Monday After the Masters, which has raised millions of dollars to help children in need over the past 30 years.
Rucker’s golf game has significantly improved since partnering with PXG, a high-end golf equipment brand founded by Bob Parsons. With a handicap index of 4.7, Rucker attributes his strong sense of tempo and rhythm on the course to his background as a musician. Although he doesn’t listen to his own music while playing, Rucker finds music to be a helpful tool for keeping focused during practice and on the course.
As a South Carolinian, Rucker has a special appreciation for the golf courses in his home state, particularly Bulls Bay, Country Club of Charleston, Yeamans Hall, and Kiawah. However, his all-time favorite place to play is Augusta National, a dream opportunity that he treasures. When not on his home turf, Rucker enjoys playing at Scottsdale National, a course he frequents while on tour.
In addition to his personal golf pursuits, Rucker is dedicated to supporting collegiate golf through events like the Hootie at Bulls Bay, a men’s tournament, and his annual women’s collegiate event on Hilton Head. As the first non-NCAA Championship women’s college tournament to be televised, Rucker is proud to bring more attention to women’s golf and showcase the incredible talent of young female golfers in the sport.
Through his passion for golf and philanthropy, Darius Rucker continues to make a positive impact on the golf community and beyond. His involvement in charity events, support of collegiate golf, and love for the game have solidified his reputation as a dedicated golfer and advocate for the sport. From his early introduction to golf in Charleston to playing world-renowned courses and collaborating with top equipment brands, Rucker’s journey through the world of golf is a testament to his unwavering passion and commitment to the game.
