Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell will be addressing allegations against Scottie Scheffler in court on Wednesday, although the details of the allegations were not specified in the statement from O’Connell’s office. Scheffler, the current top-ranked golfer in the world, was arrested for allegedly injuring a Louisville Metro Police detective with his car outside Valhalla Golf Club on May 17. The charges he faces include second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic, with second-degree assault being classified as a Class C felony in Kentucky.

Despite the upcoming court appearance, Scheffler will not be present at the hearing as it was agreed upon by the parties involved and given court permission. His arraignment is scheduled for June 3 based on court records. Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, has stated that his client is not interested in negotiating a plea deal with the attorney’s office. Romines is fully prepared to litigate as needed, believing that the case will either be dismissed or taken to trial because Scottie did nothing wrong according to him.

The Louisville police officer involved in Scheffler’s arrest had reportedly faced previous discipline prior to this incident. Scottie Scheffler arrived at the course after being detained by the police before the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in what has become a high-profile case due to his status as the world’s top-ranked golfer. With the court proceedings taking place, it remains to be seen how the case will unfold and whether Scheffler will indeed go to trial or have the charges against him dismissed as his attorney believes will happen. Stay tuned for updates.
