The 2024 U.S. Women’s Open featured 22 amateurs among a field of 156 players at Lancaster Country Club. After 36 holes, only four amateurs remain in contention, with two of them, Megan Schofill and 15-year-old Asterisk Talley, currently tied for fifth place at 1 over par. At the start of the tournament, a total of 10 countries were represented, including top-ranked amateur Ingrid Lindblad of Sweden, Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion Lottie Woad of England, and NCAA individual champion Adela Cernousek of France.
Among the amateurs advancing to the weekend are Talley, who shot 70-71 to secure a T-5 position, Schofill with matching rounds of 70-71 in her first U.S. Women’s Open appearance, and USC’s Catherine Park at 2 over and in a share of 13th. However, Cernousek, the NCAA medalist, made the cut on the number at 8 over after opening with a 69 and posting a 79 in the second round, putting her in a tie for 59th place.
Unfortunately, several amateurs failed to make the cut, including Lindblad and Woad, along with other players such as Samantha Brown, Kimberly Dinh, Megha Ganne, and more. The fierce competition in the U.S. Women’s Open showcases the talent of amateur players from around the world, with the remaining four amateurs looking to make their mark and potentially contend for the title. As the tournament progresses, fans can expect to see exciting performances from these rising stars in the world of women’s golf.
