Professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau arrived late to the Penn State vs. SMU football game, missing most of the action as SMU suffered a blowout loss. DeChambeau, along with fellow golfer Harry Higgs, had traveled to State College to support the SMU Mustangs in their first-ever College Football Playoff game. However, due to the State College Regional Airport being closed, DeChambeau’s plane was diverted to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, about 65 miles from Beaver Stadium. Despite missing much of the first half of the game, DeChambeau and other SMU donors eventually made their way to the stadium on a shuttle.

SMU alumni and donors, including DeChambeau and former NFL player Craig James, were among those affected by the airport closure and subsequent shuttle ride to the game. The group arrived about an hour after kickoff, likely missing a significant portion of the action on the field. Despite the disappointment of missing part of the game, the group may have avoided sitting in brutal State College traffic and enduring freezing temperatures, as Penn State quickly took a 28-0 lead in the first half due in part to interceptions by the SMU quarterback.

After the game, despite the unfavorable outcome for SMU, the author suggests that DeChambeau should stay in State College to enjoy the vibrant bar scene in Happy Valley. If DeChambeau is looking for recommendations on where to go, the author offers to provide some suggestions via email. While DeChambeau may have missed much of the game, he can still make the most of his time in State College by exploring the local nightlife and attractions. Despite the setback of missing part of the game, DeChambeau can still find ways to enjoy his time in the area. Whether he decides to stay for longer or return home, the experience of supporting his alma mater in a playoff game will surely be memorable for DeChambeau and his fellow SMU donors.
