Cabot, a Canadian-based golf company, has expanded globally in recent years, with resorts in various locations around the world. Their latest investment is in Lofoten Links in Norway, a rugged seaside course located nearly 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The course, ranked No. 72 on Golfweek’s Best ranking of international courses, offers a unique experience for golfers, with the sun never setting during the summer months, allowing for 24-hour golfing opportunities in June and July.
Originally opened as a six-hole layout in 1998, Lofoten Links has since been expanded to a full 18 holes by architect Jeremy Turner. The course is built on an old Viking site, adding to its unique charm and extreme golfing environment. Coastal holes are lined with rocky outcroppings, creating a challenging yet picturesque experience for players. Cabot’s CEO, Ben Cowan-Dewar, is excited to be a part of this extraordinary course and destination, which has gained global recognition for its stunning beauty and layout.
Cabot’s expansion now includes properties in various locations, including the Caribbean, Florida, France, Scotland, and western Canada. The company will be working closely with Lofoten Links’ current ownership group, led by founder Frode Hov, to help realize the full potential of this amazing asset. Despite this new partnership, Lofoten Links will retain its name without Cabot branding, maintaining its unique identity in the golfing world.
The golf season at Lofoten Links runs from May to October, offering not only golf but also activities such as hiking, kayaking, and the chance to witness the northern lights. With the potential for more golf courses in the future, Cabot is focused on fully developing the existing course before expanding further. The setting of Lofoten Links is described as “otherworldly,” providing a strong foundation for future growth and development at the resort.
Overall, Cabot’s investment in Lofoten Links represents a significant step in the company’s global expansion strategy. By partnering with a unique and remote destination like Lofoten, Cabot aims to offer golfers a truly unforgettable experience in a breathtaking setting. With the potential for future development and expansion, Lofoten Links has the opportunity to become a must-visit destination for golfers around the world, further solidifying Cabot’s position as a leader in the golf industry.
