Can Vice Golf Fit You for Irons and Wedges Online? Let’s Dive In!

Hey there, fellow golf enthusiasts! Welcome back to Part Two of my journey through Vice Golf’s online fitting system. If you caught my last post, you know I already tackled their putter and ball fitting interfaces. This time, we’re stepping it up a notch as I dive into fitting for irons and wedges. Is it possible to get a perfect club fit without smacking some balls or recording swing data? Spoiler alert: stick around to find out!

The Vice Golf and HIO Fitting Database

Before we jump into the nitty-gritty fitting details, let’s take a moment to chat about the behind-the-scenes magic. After answering some swing-related questions on the Vice Golf site, your responses get tossed into the HIO fitting database — Europe’s top dog for brand-neutral club fitting. This database is packed with insights from thousands of fittings, which sounds fancy, right? So what happens? Your answers get crunched, and bam! You’re served up a custom club recommendation in no time.

But hold on—Vice doesn’t just stop there. Like with their putters, you can also schedule a free 30-minute consultation with a fitting expert. This is your chance to fine-tune your fit and maybe clear up any head-scratchers.

Time to Answer Some Questions!

Okay, so let’s get real for a moment. When it comes to my iron game, I’m somewhere in the middle—not the longest hitter, nor the most accurate, but my irons usually keep me out of trouble. (It’s really my driver that destroys my scorecard.) I’ve participated in fittings before, so I thought I had my specs down. Turns out, Vice had a few surprises in store for me!

My Iron Play Q&A

So, what did I have to answer to get my fitting? Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. Gender: Male
  2. Height: 5’11” – 6’1”
  3. Average Score: 82-90
  4. Iron Preference: More forgiving
  5. Iron 7 Carry Distance: 140-155 yards
  6. Iron Struggles: Hitting it short and accuracy
  7. Preferred Shaft Type: Graphite
  8. Ideal Shaft Weight: Heavier for balance
  9. Misses Direction: Right side
  10. Launch Preference: Lower
  11. Grip Type: Rubber
  12. Grip Size: Standard +2 extra tape

After crunching the numbers, the fitting analysis recommended I use the VGI02 irons, 5-SW, 60-gram graphite A-flex shaft, half an inch longer, and 0.5 degrees stronger and upright. Most of it fit my expectations, but the A-flex shaft threw me for a loop. A-flex? Am I getting old already?

Wedge Play Q&A

While we’re here, let’s also look at my wedge answers since I chatted about both irons and wedges with the Vice fitter. Here’s how my wedge fitting stacked up:

  1. Gender: Male
  2. Height: 5’11” – 6’1”
  3. Average Score: 82-90
  4. Pitching Wedge Carry Distance: 91-110 yards
  5. Preferred Shaft Type: Graphite
  6. Ideal Shaft Weight: Heavier for balance
  7. Misses Direction: Right side
  8. Launch Preference: Lower
  9. Grip Type: Rubber
  10. Grip Size: Standard +2 extra tape

No real surprises—the results for wedges closely mirrored my iron fitting. I ended up with the VGW01 head, sporting the same shaft and bend specs as the irons. Solid!

Chatting with a Vice Golf Fitting Specialist

Despite thinking the initial recommendations were pretty close, I still had to speak with a Vice fitter about the shaft. The good news? They informed me that Vice’s graphite shafts play stiffer than what you might expect. A bit of relief for my ego, but a twist nonetheless! I had a history of issues with light shafts, so I expressed my concerns about the 60-gram weight.

The fitter responded smartly by switching the recommendation to a Whiz 75-gram regular shaft, soft-stepped to keep the A-flex. He even bumped the lie angle up a degree to +1° in the irons and +2° for the wedges.

Customizing My Vice Golf Irons and Wedges

Alright, once the fitting was in place, it was time to customize! You know me—I had to add some flair to my clubs. After all, who wants boring clubs? Channeling some serious 1985 vibes, I was drawn to white shafts, baby blue ferrules, and pops of pink. Yes, the pink made it mandatory!

When my clubs finally arrived from Germany, I was giddy with excitement. They looked incredible! The topographic cavity engraving on the VGI02s is a fantastic touch, making them stand out from other irons on the market.

Actually Playing with the Vice Golf VGI02 Irons and VGW01 Wedges

Now that the clubs were all custom and ready to roll, it was time to put them to the test! As much fun as customizing was, I was eager to see how they performed. I compared them against my trusty PING G440s to gauge their capabilities.

Feel Matters

First things first—the feel is on point. There’s this delightful squish when you make good contact; it’s so satisfying! The feedback lets you know where you hit on the face, which isn’t a given with all hollow game-improvement irons. Nice touch, Vice!

Durability

Typically, durability isn’t at the forefront of iron discussions, but let’s talk about it for a sec. At $499 for the VGI02 set, these clubs are indeed budget-friendly. So how do they hold up? After many range sessions and on-course wear, they still sparkle! Scuffs and scratches disappear with a quick wipe. It’s like they knew how to keep their looks without the premium price tag.

How They Play

So how did they actually perform? In a word—interesting! Not in a “may-you-live-in-interesting-times” way, but rather intriguing. There were highs and lows, and they definitely exceeded my expectations in several areas. With my swing being on the inconsistent side, I’m always looking for gear that smooths out my erratic ball striking.

The Vice clubs helped! They took a little time to adjust to, but once I got my swing dialed in at the range, I started feeling really good about them. They launched significantly higher than my PINGs, which was surprising. The distance stayed about the same, but with a steeper descent angle—good for holding greens!

Final Thoughts on the Vice Golf Clubs

Overall, I want to emphasize how impressed I am with the Vice Golf VGI02 irons and VGW01 wedges. After only a few online questions and a free consultation, I have a set of clubs that play well and look fantastic.

Now, can this online fitting process fully replace an in-person fitting? Not quite. There’s really no substitute for seeing a professional fitter analyze your swing in person. But if you can’t make it to a fitter, let me tell you, Vice is an excellent alternative.

So go ahead and check out the Vice Golf site for your fitting. There’s zero risk in getting fitted online. You could be one step away from a custom set of clubs that could enhance your game. Why not try it out and see what’s recommended for your swing?

Curious about your recommendations? I’m eager to hear if they’re similar to what you’re currently playing or if it could be time to shake things up a bit. Get your free fittings at ViceGolf.com and let me know how it goes! Happy golfing!
